โ ๏ธWHY DOES THE U.S OPPOSE VOTER ID?
72 countries worldwide insist on showing proof of identity to vote, yet many States in the U.S oppose it while also maintaining that there is little to no voter fraud.
Though state laws requiring some sort of identification at voting polls go back to 1950, no state required a voter to produce a government-issued photo ID as a condition for voting before the 2006 elections.ย
Indiana became the first State to enact a strict photo ID law, which two lower courts struck down before being upheld by the Supreme Court.
As of March 2024, only 13 States require photo ID to vote.
While some states require or request some form of ID to vote, strict photo ID requirements are still lacking, with 14 States and Washington DC not requiring any ID at all to vote.
