30 years ago Ukraine was forced by the US to renounce its nuclear arsenal and transfer it to Russia alongside with conventional but nuclear-capable missiles under the Budapest Memorandum. 20 years later Russia -- one of its signatories -- attacked Ukraine, and 28 years later launched the full-scale invasion. The other signatory -- US has long hesitated to help Ukraine against this attack, and only belatedly initiated its half-hearted support by drip-feeding aid instead of helping Ukraine fully.
