1) Emphasising that malnutrition is a “hurdle” in the development of women and children, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced fortification of rice distributed under various government schemes including Public Distribution System (PDS) and Mid-Day-Meal scheme by 2024.

5) The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched an online portal Training for Augmenting Productivity and Services, or TAPAS, to offer massive open online courses (MOOC).
➨ TAPAS has been developed by the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD). It will provide five basic courses on Drug (Substance) Abuse Prevention, Geriatric/Elderly Care, Care and Management of Dementia, Transgender Issues and on comprehensive course on Social Defence Issues.

6) Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray launched the e-crop survey initiative which became effective in Maharashtra from August 15.
➨ The project, which was initially introduced as a pilot in two districts, is jointly implemented by the departments of revenue and agriculture along with the Tata Trust.

7) The Indian Navy participated in the U.S. Navy-led SEACAT (Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training) military exercises in Singapore, to demonstrate its maritime manoeuvres. The military exercise also included navies of 19 other Southeast Asian and Indo-Pacific countries as well.

9) Four more wetlands from India got recognition from the Ramsar Secretariat as Ramsar sites.
➨ These sites are Thol and Wadhwana from Gujarat and Sultanpur and Bhindawas from Haryana.
➨With this, the number of Ramsar sites in India are 46 and the surface area covered by these sites is now 1,083,322 hectares. While Haryana gets its first Ramsar sites, Gujarat gets three more after Nalsarovar which was declared in 2012.

10) The Vice President, M. Venkaiah Naidu has released a book ‘Accelerating India: 7 Years of Modi Government’ at Upa-Rashtrapati Nivas.

11) Women Sub-Inspector Rita Debnath of Tripura Police has been awarded the ‘Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation’ for the year 2021.
➨ The list of awardees were announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
➨ The ‘Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation’ for the year 2021 has been awarded to 152 police personnel all over the country including 28 women police officers across the country are to receive the award.
