Just like a new season of one’s favorite TV show, new KMMS season starts with a new exciting selection and therefore…

WTO MOOT SELECTION BEGINS!

No matter if you are an experienced mooter or just waiting for the right moment to start your way in moot courts, the coaching squad of the John H. Jackson Moot Court KMA team invites you to join the new adventure on the way to Geneva!

◻️ What is John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition (JHJMCC)?
Cases of JHJMCC concern the emerging international trade issues under the framework of WTO law. During the moot you will participate in the regional European rounds, and if (or better when) you qualify, in the final international round held in WTO headquarters in Geneva.

◻️ Why WTO law?
After our inevitable victory in the war, the time will come for peaceful development. As UK Prime Minister David Cameron once said: “The economy is the start and end of everything. You can't have successful education reform or any other reform if you don't have a strong economy”. That is where the WTO law will come at hand. Such policies as protection of domestic producers, subsidization, joining free trade areas, international trade in all its aspects, and even sanctions are all subject to the regulation of the WTO legal framework.

◻️ What awaits you at the selection?
If you are eager to join our team, please fill in this form!

After the final date for the application submission, we will send you a trial task by mail. You will have approx. a week to write your arguments on the issue (in a memo format) and a few days afterwards to prepare a speech.

Don’t be afraid, we will not leave you without all the necessary guidance, clarifications, and explanations!

Please note the deadline for the application is 23:59 September 28th, Thursday (do not confuse with Tuesday, hehe).

◻️ What about the coaches?
The team will be coached by previous mooters and practicing lawyers Oleksandra Zmazhenko and Ivan Sova, and advised by KMA alumna and practicing trade lawyer in Switzerland Leonila Guglya.

Don’t miss the chance and get to that application right ahead!

🌟 Last but not least, welcome back another legend of the Hague — the Telders Team!

Despite various challenges, personal and nationwide, despite bombings and blackouts, the team comprising Bohdana Yaruta, Vladyslav Chyryk, Andrii Latsyba, Alina Semenova, and coached by Maksym Vishchyk, successfully made it to the international finals in the Hague - the first ones held offline since 2019!

Continuing Mohyla's great traditions the team scored 7th in the overall ranking out of 25 teams from the leading European universities. Two team members — Vladyslav Chyryk and Alina Semenova — also ranked 14th and 15th respectively in the Best-20 Oralist Ranking.

This continues the Academy's long-standing tradition of participation in Telders resulting in the persistent holding of the Top-10 positions, including the 2016 victory, and two consecutive years of ranking second overall in 2018 and 2019.

The Team is immensely grateful to Leiden University and especially Mette Léons for providing critical support in travels and accommodation arrangements. They also express huge gratitude to the Dead Lawyers Fund without whom the team’s experience would never be there. Lastly, a big “thank you” goes to all the persons of goodwill for their essential financial contributions, specifically Amal Nassar, Glyn Morgan, Oksana Ihnatenko, Marta Popyk, Pavlo Malyuta, Raluca Popescu, Ciaran Burke, Anton Moiseienko, Volodymyr Venher and many other friends who supported the Team in a variety of ways!

💫 A sunny day two weeks ago marked the end of the 21st edition of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition on the issues of international trade law, and our KMA team is rushing to share their truly historic results with you!

Recalling the results of the regional rounds, the team became the winner of the First European Regional Round, and received the Best Overall Written Submission Award. Moreover, both Yana Hordenko and Alisa Zelenko were recognised as the Best Speakers with special Awards!

Then the team proceeded to the Final Oral Round in Geneva, and for the first time in the history of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy reached the Quarterfinals of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition. As the result, the Team landed in the top 5-8 teams in the world!

The team wants to express their sincere gratitude to all the sponsors, especially Avellum, Sayenko Kharenko, CMS, Alpha Associates AG and all international trade law community, whose financial support helped them reach both rounds! Special thanks to Leonila Guglya, Tetyana Payosova and Iryna Polovets for encouraging and supporting the team during their whole journey!

💫 The Hague has been waiting for them for so long… No, not for the ones you might think of, — but for the KMA ICC Moot Court Competition Team!

Despite all the horrors of the past few weeks, our ICC Team managed to light up our feeds and hearts with some good news, as on June 2-9 our fantastic Amina Morhoieva, Anastasiia-Liliia Steblii, Volodymyr Cherednychenko and Vladyslav Mykhalchenko (coached by Mariia Raievska and Lidiia Volkova) went to The Hague to compete widely and strongly.

For 10 months the Team devotedly researched into issues of ecocide, crime against humanity of other inhuman acts, extraterritorial jurisdiction, and admissibility of evidence before the ICC despite all of the challenges brought by the full-scale invasion.

This persistency payed off in The Hague, where they not only advanced to the Quarter-Finals making their its way to top-27 teams (out of 105!), but also won two awards: Best Government Counsel Memorial and Best Overall Memorial!

The team express our kindest gratitude to he International Committee of the Red Cross for their financial support, which made the team's participation in the rounds in The Hague possible!
