Salem everyone!

With a bit of a hassle, we transferred 250,000 tenge (~$560) from goFundMe to Kaspi. Now we need to actually donate that money. Initially, we were planning to collaborate with local volunteers to help the impacted families, but because of the delay in funds, we are now thinking of transferring it all to AsarUme.

However, if you are from one of the affected regions and you know exactly what funds focus specifically on flood victims (with a bit more transparency than AsarUme), I would highly appreciate it if you commented on this post or DM me.

don’t @ me

UC Berkeley is going through a rebranding. Historically, we were the most relevant university in California, so the shortened name of the state (“Cal”) always referred to UC Berkeley. However, managing 3 different identities on a global level is challenging and confusing to many so the administration wants to only keep the name “Berkeley”.

Alumni and students are mad about the new minimalistic design. I also think that the new logo looks cheap. What is your opinion?

I was scared that I am shit at making political arguments compared to native speakers so I took Comparative Politics as Pass/No Pass. I passed, but I would get an extra A if I went with a letter grade. With 3 technicals dropping my GPA this semester it would be pretty handy. Oh well.

I will also contribute to the community for free sometime in mid-June. I am currently devising the most efficient way to do that. Stay tuned.

On average, for every $1 dollar invested into my College Applications Support program last summer my students made $221.22 in scholarship money.

This summer, I am looking for 1-2 mentees for everything college applications-related.

The personal essay, the supplementals, the college list, boosting and forming your extracurriculars, coding and designing your passion project, and anything else you need to maximize your chances of getting in.

You will have an unprecedented amount of personal attention and support, with further connections to people in academia relevant to your case and profile.
As this requires a lot of effort and planning, the price is $1150 / month for 3 months (with indefinite further support)

With the price in this range, I can focus on delivering the highest quality to you and your application without having to deal with other cases. I firmly believe that every cent of this investment is justified and the experience’s impact will go beyond just the college applications.

5 hours of sleep, 0.8L of coffee, a black hoodie, last-moment studying, and a final at 8 AM.

I live up to the CS stereotype.

Listening to “Father Time” made me wonder whether after the recent events Kazakh society is ready to talk about how routinely oppressive parts of our culture and societal norms are to women. And I feel like a lot of it comes from what men were taught to think and fear to the extent where we put the threat to seem unmasculine above the people we love. Or as Kendrick puts it,

“Grown men with daddy issues”.

I spend most of my days in headphones — I love music and I used to post music on this channel. I feel like it’s a fun tradition to introduce back.

Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is a beautiful album. First listened to it in 2021, but only grew fond of it during this semester.

San Francisco is such a beautiful and vibrant city.

It’s easy to focus on the bad parts: homelessness, drug crisis, and crime.

But at a certain point, you gotta ask yourself whether it’s really about how dangerous the city is or if it is you who is scared to embrace something major and unfamiliar.

A note for my future self.
