Giving away the hoard

This question is about the other side of data hoarding... How do you give it all away when you have too much data?

There are a lot of smart cookies on this sub, what is the cheapest, practical way to distribute the most data to the largest number of average, non-technical people?

For the sake of argument, ignore copyright issues, this is really a technical distribution question.

This is not a theoretical question... there are 100 terabytes of media spread across 10 categories, reasonably categorized into spreadsheets on a public website.

How do you give it away?

GDrive to Mega

How can I transfer my Files (Less than 15GB) from Google Drive to Mega? Downloading and Re-Uploading isn't an option since I have a limited bandwidth.

Thanks in advance.

It ain't much but it's certainly mine. I already want to install a few more old unused spinning rust drives from notebooks that we put ssds in. This truly is a digital disease.

Network Traffic at the Capital

I was wondering if anyone has heard of any Network Traffic data being grabbed real time during the event. would be great to see all the mac addresses and ip information and locations of all the riotors and protestors.

They all had Apple and Google cell phones and tablets. the cell providers could tell use who the people were who killed the police officer, who were responsible for crushing the police officers arm in the door, who trampled the women who was crushed to death, and who was around the man who fell to his death from the scaffolding.

Also it may identify who left the pipe bombs.

Automatic Shut Off from Eaton UPS?

Hi All,

I recently acquired an Eaton 9PX1500GRT from a friend, and I was wondering if there was a way of being able to use this to SAFELY automatically power down my NAS in a power outage.

Link to specific model of UPS: https://www.eaton.com/us/en-us/skuPage.9PX1500GRT.html

I have figured out how to configure the UPS to basically just power it off pretty much immediately if input power is lost and power up the port upon power restoration, but I am having issues figuring out how to control the NAS. I am running FreeNAS.

I have a Supermicro C9Z490-PGW motherboard (a somewhat-gag gift from a friend who is into non-RGB gaming machines, while I embrace the "unicorn vomit") with a Corsair ATX12V PSU (standard desktop PSU). I am using one of the X16 slots for my raid controller card, so I would essentially have an x1 and either an x16 or two x8 slots to find a solution.

Link to Motherboard: https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/motherboard/C9Z490-PGW

# Now, the question: How do I connect my UPS to my FreeNAS machine in such a way that will allow me to power down the computer automatically when power is lost without any crazy web-based management?

Thanks,

CT

EDIT: I removed all references to power up issues, since I figured it out (just a simple BIOS option...goddammit, this is why I always feel like I am asking stupid questions...)

Anyone got a copy of Hannah Montana Linux?

I'm trying to collect some obscure ISOs and the mirrors for it seem to all have issues

And yes, I do recognize the irony in asking for an actual Linux ISO from data hoarders haha

Where can I find old episodes of ESPN's "Outside the Lines" from circa 2002?

This might be a long shot. I'm trying to track down an episode that aired on November 5th, 2002. I remember seeing it online waaaay back when. I tried checking the Wayback Machine with no luck, and I can't find it via search engine now.
Anybody know if there's an archive anywhere that might have what I'm looking for?
Thanks!

Thanks in advance

WD Ultrastar enterprise drive won't spin down

Just got a new drive yesterday and put it in 2 different enclsures. Won't spin down.

I'm using this for time machine. It's a WD Ultrastar which is same as HC320 series HGST. The drive doesn't spin down. All my other drives spin down in the enclosure fine.

I'm on a mac. Can i somehow do it manually in terminal? I've never had this issue before with any drives.

RAID1 in Windows keeps becoming "Foreign"

If anyone has a better sub to ask this in let me know, but I know when it comes to storage you guys have always had my back.

I have a 2-disk RAID1 array in my system using Windows's RAID setup.

These disks work fine, but sometimes after an reboot the array shows as "Missing" and the two drives show up al "Foreign"

I can just press import foreign and the disks will show back up again in Explorer, but its a pain in the butt as I have programs that start up from it (and thus fail on reboot).

Why does it not recognize the disks anymore? Has anyone ran into this issue before?

Data on Microsoft Sharepoint, all locked down.

Hi DH's, I'm asking you because if anyone has this knowledge it's you people.

I made a Data Access Request to my employer, who made me redundant, for all the data they held on me. They eventually provided what I requested, sort of...

They sent me a link to an MS Sharepoint server (?) where I have been disabled from downloading or printing any of the documents. All I can do is copy the text in the embedded tables section by section. There are 5,000+ pages of information. Is there a way to download this data? Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance!

how to determine integrity of external hard drives? and what file system to use (mac/Linux)

Finally with some time at home for lockdown I have managed to do some spring cleaning in my computer and closet. got rid of excessive copies of old files and ready to start fresh.

I have some external hard drives I'd like to use but I am unsure about how reliable they are. I've gotten files I need from them so I can format or do whatever.

how to determine integrity

1. How do you know how trustworthy a hard drive is?
2. Is there some kind of routine check I can run once in a while to catch problems?
2. Do you have any role for less than perfect drives in your set ups?
3. Particularly, I have an 8 TB WD My Passport external. But one partition will not mount; otherwise functional. Still under warranty.

what file system(s)?

- Currently I am using Mac OS but I will likely switch to Linux in the next few years so if there is a way to consider compatibility with that I'd prefer it
- Strong preference for encryption

I appreciate any thoughts. I know this stuff is discussed here but sometimes it's a bit above my level of comprehension. Any missing details let me know I will provide; I am trying to be brief.

Self-hosted crowd-sourced photo tagging solution?

My family has a couple thousand family pictures that I've salvaged from thumb drives and hard drives over the year and my mom has hundreds more in her google photos account. There's a lot of good pictures and also a ton of irrelevant or blurry pictures. I'd like to be able to sort all these pictures and tag them with people's names, while weeding out the bad ones.

Going through these manually could take a while and while I've done that before for some I haven't done that recently and there's quite a backlog to look through. I have 8 younger siblings and many of them love looking at family pictures, so I had the idea of crowd sourcing the organizing and filtering process to my siblings and other family members. Ideally this would let them log into a user account and tag the pictures then let me view the results and go with the majority vote on what pictures to exclude and what tags to use.

Is there anything like this that exists that I could use or edit to do this? If I need to program this from scratch I can do that, but don't want to reinvent the wheel if I don't have to. If I do need to program something, what would be the best way to link the temporary tags for each user then apply them at the end?

Dunno if this post quite fits this sub, but since it has to do with sorting data for hoarding I figured I'd ask here.

Help with website image bulk download.

Hi guys I'm looking to download all images uploaded on this website including all images in sub tabs like costumes etc:

https://azurlane.koumakan.jp/ListofShipsbyImage

But I'm having difficulty understanding how to go about this, I've heard wget mentioned here for other sites but not sure if this would work for this or if there are better options?

Also I'm not exactly sure how to get it working, looked through some tutorials but I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. So if that's the best option a foolproof tutorial for an absolute noon would be appreciated.

Thank you for any assistance!
