As the Day of the Resurrection approaches, let us remember that during the medieval era, the Lenten Fast was to forego all meat, including fish, and all dairy products. Just because humans stopped eating these items doesn't mean chickens stopped laying eggs or cows no longer needed milking. The eggs would keep fresh during these 40 days but to guarantee freshness they would be hard-boiled, the milk would be turned into various kinds of cheese, spring crops would be ready to be harvested, and the livestock that had been born in the fall would be fattened up for slaughter for the Easter Feast. As we enter the Holy Triduum of Christ, Our Lord and Savior, make a spiritual journey to be with Him as He established the Holy Eucharist, the creation of the Holy Priesthood, His agony at Gethsemane, His scourging at the pillar, His carrying of the Cross, and His death at Calvary. For on the third day, He resurrected from the dead, giving life enteral to those who believe in Him so that we may be with Him and the Father in their Heavenly Kingdom. Christus vivit!
