🇫🇷 Staff at the Hennessy cognac house in France have staged an unprecedented strike amid China's imposition of customs duties from the EU. Up to 600 people (half of the company's employees) went on strike against the management's decision to export cognac in casks to avoid paying customs duties.
The strike is taking place in the Charente department of the New Aquitaine region in western France. Protesters set up a barbecue outside the company's headquarters and stretched banners bearing union logos. The unions General Confederation of Labour (CGT) and Workers' Force (FO) said they have no intention of ending the action and are also calling for a large-scale demonstration by industry professionals next week.
