Há 75 anos, em 13 de dezembro de 1949, David Ben-Gurion, a primeira pessoa a ocupar o cargo de primeiro-ministro de Israel, declarou Jerusalém como a capital do país. No mesmo dia, o Knesset, parlamento israelense, aprovou a transferência da sede do governo de Tel Aviv para Jerusalém, poucos meses após o fim da Guerra da Independência.

A decisão foi uma resposta às discussões na ONU sobre a internacionalização da cidade. Apesar das contestações de diversas capitais estrangeiras desde então, a manutenção Jerusalém como capital tornou-se um marco da identidade judaica do Estado de Israel e permanece central em sua política.

No último domingo (8), na 27ª edição dos British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), o ator Jason Isaacs, conhecido por interpretar Lucius Malfoy em “Harry Potter”, usou um broche amarelo em homenagem aos reféns israelenses.

O objetivo era chamar a atenção para os cerca de 100 reféns sequestrados pelo Hamas no massacre de 7 de outubro de 2023 que ainda estão mantidos em cativeiro na Faixa de Gaza há mais de 400 dias.

The BBC obviously missed the part about the ethnic cleansing of Jews in Syria. Pretty sure they’re not lining up to run back to Damascus.

A BBC reporter suggests that Syrian Jews will want to return to live in the Old City of Damascus.

Only one problem: once 40,000 Jews lived in Syria, but following ethnic cleansing by Arab leaders since the 1940s, only 3 Jews remain in the entire country.

He had a Facebook page and a YouTube channel dedicated to sharing images and videos of a Gaza before it was overrun with terrorists. There is nothing he hated more than Hamas. In words he posted to social media: “May God curse the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, they have brought us nothing but backwardness in our Arab societies.”

In the 14 months since October 7, as I have read post after post on social media referring to Hamas as freedom fighters involved in anti-colonial resistance, I have been struck by the devastating weight of this lie. It is an insult to Palestinians to refer to these terrorists as our freedom fighters.
