WHO and partners reached Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern #Gaza two days ago, amid hostilities and explosions in the vicinity of the hospital during the mission. The team delivered 5000 liters of fuel, food and medicines, and transferred 3 patients and 6 companions to Al-Shifa Hospital.

In the last week, four WHO missions to Kamal Adwan have been arbitrarily denied, including the re-deployment of the international emergency medical team, which had self-evacuated from the hospital on 6 December due to hostilities. This has left the hospital without specialized personnel for surgical and maternal care.

Hostilities around the hospital continue and recent attacks have further damaged the oxygen supply, generators, and broken windows and doors of the patients' rooms.

The conditions in the hospital are simply appalling.

We urge for the protection of health care and for this hell to stop! Ceasefire!

Every drowning death is one death too many, and millions of people remain at risk. The new WHO report on #DrowningPrevention contains crucial data for policy-making and recommendations for urgent action to save lives: bit.ly/3ZyOAam

While the climate crisis is multi-faceted, from the perspective of WHO, it is fundamentally a health crisis.

I was privileged to appear before the International Court of Justice today and present the evidence on the health impacts of climate change that my colleagues have collected for over 25 years: https://bit.ly/3Bq1uzq

Mitigation is not yet on pace to be effective to avoid the most catastrophic impacts.

Only rapid and equitable #ClimateAction, including the phase out of fossil fuels, can protect the health of both people and the planet — for a healthier world now, and for the future we leave our children.

When you need health services, can you access them?

Can you afford them?

Shockingly, for too many people, the answer is no. Many have to choose between health care or their next meal; between medicines or their children's schoolbooks.

#UHCDay is a reminder that #HealthForAll means everyone can access the health services they need, without financial hardship.

That's the world WHO is working for.

It feels like yesterday, when President Emmanuel Macron and I held a corridor conversation at the G20 Leaders Summit in Argentina in 2018 about the potential to revolutionise training for health professionals by setting up an academy.

In two weeks time, on 17 December, the journey will reach its first key milestone -- the #WHOAcademy inauguration in Lyon.

The Academy’s vision is straightforward yet ambitious: a world where every health and care worker, policymaker and WHO team member is equipped with the skills and competencies they need to achieve health for all.

I invite all Member States and health professionals around the world to join us in celebrating this moment and help us make the WHO Academy a centre of excellence for the whole world!

This #WorldAIDSDay, we call on countries to keep human rights central in the HIV response.

Marginalization, criminalization and discrimination against key populations has fuelled HIV transmission and cost lives.

By protecting everyone’s right to health, we can prevent new infections and achieve an AIDS-free generation.

90% of people in Gaza are now living in tents, leaving them vulnerable to respiratory and other diseases, food insecurity and malnutrition as winter approaches.

The ultimate solution to this suffering is not aid, but peace.

An additional 17 patients from Gaza were evacuated to Jordan yesterday for specialized medical treatment. 12 will continue receiving care in the US.

Six of the patients require cancer treatment and 11 need treatment for war injuries.

They were evacuated with 17 companions.

We once again thank 🇯🇴 and 🇺🇸 for their support.

We urge for all corridors from Gaza to be utilised to ensure medical evacuations can happen smoothly and quickly — thousands of patients are still waiting for specialist health care.

Stopping #AntimicrobialResistance (AMR) is a shared responsibility.

This World AMR Awareness Week, let's work together to protect the medicines that protect us.

Arrived in Rio for the #G20 leaders summit. I am inspired by the beautiful welcome by my friend, Health Minister Nisia Ttrindade, as #Brazil illuminated the iconic Cristo Redentor in solidarity with WHO and the global movement to eliminate #CervicalCancer.

This is the one cancer we have the tools to eliminate. We call on G20 leaders to support access to HPV vaccines for all girls in all countries, and access to screening and treatment for all women who need it.

Let’s make cervical cancer elimination a reality!

Four years ago today, WHO and communities around the world made a historic commitment to eliminate #CervicalCancer — and since then, 17th November is marked as Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action.

I thank all the health workers who are playing a critical role in this global effort.

Only with strong leadership and sustained investment can we achieve our shared goal of equitable access for communities most in need.

Antimicrobial resistance doesn’t just threaten to make the medicines we depend on less effective in the future; it’s happening now.

We’re not just talking about the risk of people dying from antibiotic-resistant infections; they’re dying now – over a million people every year.

Why does climate change matter?

We care because, ultimately, climate change is about human health, as President Pedro Sànchez said.

Rising sea levels and temperatures contribute to cardiovascular disease, and fuel the spread of communicable diseases to new places.

Extreme weather events take lives.

Air pollution fills our lungs with poison.

The climate crisis is not sometime in the future. It’s right here and now. #COP29
