Band 8+ essay
Some people feel that the era of the silver screen is coming to an end and that people will eventually lose interest in going to the cinema.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It has been argued that people will lose interest in experiencing movies in cinemas in the future. I completely disagree with this point of view.
The superior quality of the viewing experience is one reason why cinemas will continue to be popular in the future. When people watch movies at home on televisions or other small screens, there are distractions in the environment such as sound from family and neighbours, outside light and screen reflections. In contrast to this, watching movies in a cinema is a pure experience in which we can be immersed in a film, assuming there are no loud cinema-goers. Part of this immersion comes from the fact that the screen is bigger, there is high quality surround sound and the room is dark.
A second reason why people will continue going to the movies is because of the social aspects of cinema attendance. For a long time, a popular activity with friends has been to see new blockbusters together and talk about their experience and opinions afterwards. This shared experience cannot be fully reproduced from watching a rental or streamed movie in someone’s home. Furthermore, going to the cinema has, and will continue to be a great option for date nights for new or established couples. Often two people might not share the same hobbies and interests, but almost everyone likes to get out of the house, go to a restaurant and then watch a movie at the cinema.
In conclusion, watching movies at the cinema is a unique experience that cannot be replicated. It is also a great place to meet up with friends and partners. Therefore, I believe that people will not lose interest in going to cinemas in the foreseeable future.
