🇷🇺Russia is building a ship at a shipyard in Kerch that is larger than the sunken missile cruiser Moskva, the former flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, Newsweek reports.

Military publication Defense Express has published photographs showing the construction of one of two Project 23900 Ivan Rogov-class landing ships. Such vessels are reportedly capable of transporting up to 90 units of military equipment, including 15 helicopters.

According to Defense Express, based on new satellite images, the vessel will be about 220 meters long and 40 meters wide.

The publication compared the new images with those published in July 2024 by OSINT analyst M.T. Anderson in X.

“At that point, the ship’s hull was just beginning to take shape, which shows significant progress by the Russians in less than a year,” Defense Express noted.

According to the publication, the Ivan Rogov-class landing ship is larger than the Moskva cruiser.

The ship, with a displacement of about 30,000 tons, will be able to accommodate up to 900 marines, transport 75 units of combat equipment, three small landing craft and 15 helicopters (including the Ka-29 and Ka-52K models). For comparison, the length of the Moskva was 186 meters, and the displacement was 11,490 tons.

The first sea trials have been postponed until 2027, Defense Express reports.
