Programmable playlists for playing videos on Mac?
Hi there, I've posted this on the VLC subreddit but so far no answers, and I'm curious about other video players for Mac.I want to be able to create a custom playlist, that will randomly populate in videos from two different folders, so that it plays a video from folder 1, then folder 2, then folder 1, etc. The idea is simulating old broadcast TV a bit, by having random episodes of shows, with a random "bumper" video - station IDs, etc. - in between each. I'm not a coder, so I'm hoping there is a relatively straightforward means for achieving this.Any recommendations, for Mac video playing software, to super-simple AppleScript/Shortcuts ways to do this, or other subreddits more related to this kind of project, would be heartily appreciated. Thanks in advance,Mark

Looking for a specific Safari YouTube extension
Is there an extension for Safari that will expand the YouTube theater mode player to the bottom of the screen? Bonus points if it can hide the search bar, appearing only when mousing over the top of the video.

Macbook Air M2 vs M3
Hi!I'm looking to buy a MacBook for university but can't decide between the two Air models on the website because they're only about £120/$155 apart where I live. Is the difference between the two chips worth the upgrade, or is it better to just save?MacBook Air 13”, 16 GB RAM with a M2 chipMacBook Air 13”, 16 GB RAM with a M3 chipI hope to keep this laptop for 6+ years when I finish my degree, so if that £120 is worth the slight future-proofing, I'm happy to do so. I also have a PC, so I won't be doing anything crazy on the MacBook!I would appreciate any opinions! :)

Recommend me a safe and secure sleek looking/simple email client
I'm looking for an email client to help manage my 15+ emails. They are a mix of personal and business and I would like to know if there is a tool/software that could help and that takes privacy seriously and is safe/secure. I am on macOS and before anyone says to use the built in Apple mail app, it's really resource intensive and also lack features like attachments for example, I would also prefer something sleek looking and overall pretty simple. Thanks in advance.

Is it Safe to Use XDR Mode in Lunar App All the Time? Does it Shorten the Screen Lifespan?
Hey all,I just started using Lunar app, but is it safe to keep XDR mode on all the time? I saw many reviews mentioning that it's not safe to have XDR on 24/7, as it may shorten the screen's lifespan. My primary usage is to boost the brightness above 600nits on MBPWould love to hear your experiences and any tips for balancing usage! Thanks! ✨

I want to run MacWhisper all the time, but unfortunately at idle the offline model keeps running. What to do?
MacWhisper is actively idle, although I'm not transcribing anything, is there some setting that allows the model to be turned off for idle time? Or separate utilities that will allow me to do this? I personally couldn't find this setting in the application settings...

Airplay 4K Videos from Mac to AirPlay 2 enabled TV without quality loss
I’m looking for an app that can AirPlay 4K videos without any quality loss to my LG TV, which supports AirPlay 2. I’ve checked out Elmedia Pro and the AirFlow app, as they mention on their website, but I’m not sure if they work for me. Do you have any other suggestions for the best of these apps?

Similar apps to Slidepad that keep fixed positions?
I use this app https://setapp.com/apps/slidepad a lot. The main reason I think is the predictability. It always slides out from a specific position and the apps are fixed at a specific position. To be honest my dream would be to have a very static Mac with a lot of muscle memory involved. Does anyone know of other apps that work this way, with fixed positions and very predictable behavior? Thanks

A Day With the Vivaldi Browser
I decided to be open-minded and spend some time with a new browser after using Microsoft Edge for the last two years for reasons related to my job. The browser I decided to test is Vivaldi and after a day of using it just like I use my normal daily driver here are a few of the things I like.SecurityI've been concerned that the implementation of Manifest 3 browser extensions in Chromium browsers, preventing them from using the full version of uBlock Origin, would be an issue. After turning on Vivaldi's built in tracker, ad and third party cookie blocking, I added uBlock Origin Lite and tested security at Ad-Block Tester and Toolz Adblock, scoring a 99% effectiveness rate on both of them. Vivaldi has built-in tools to block cookie popups across the board.Power ConsumptionVivaldi allows you to set custom hibernation times on individual tabs or on stacks, its name for tab groups. You can also set Vivaldi to open up with lazy loading, where tabs stay in a hibernating state until you need them. I typically operate with two or three windows and 30--45 tabs at all time, so this presents a good opportunity to really reduce battery strain.AppearanceTo avoid distraction, I wanted to use the identical colors I'd used in Edge. Modifying the default theme only took a couple of minutes using a color picker and hex codes.Tab ManagementWhen you open Vivaldi for the first time, you are asked to choose if you want vertical or horizontal tabs. You can move them later if you decide to. You can also take advantage of split screen tabs, allowing you to view two web pages side by side. My favorite feature out of all the tools is saved sessions. You can save all your open tabs and reopen them later from a button on the left side toolbar. This is a separate feature from the workspaces that Vivaldi lets you create and reopen as needed. You can even go a step further and use a separate profile with a different email address to keep your work and personal browsing from mixing. This lets you use different extensions, passwords and settings at every level.Built in Mail, Calendar, Notes and Feed ReaderIt was easy to set up my primary Gmail account and the Yahoo account I use just for newsletters. Adding a selection of Google Calendars and Apple Calendars was also a breeze. While I prefer to use my subscription to Inoreader for my full-blown RSS needs, it is convenient to stick a few of my favorite sites in the Vivaldi built-in feed reader for quick access.Side PanelVivaldi has an option to any site you want in a panel on the side of the browser, helpful when doing research with Wikipedia or looking up bookmarks on Raindrop.io. You can also view your browser based bookmarks there along with notes, downloads, history, your reading list, a translation service, a list of tabs from across all current Vivaldi sessions on multiple computers, saved sessions, calendars and tasks

BalenaEtcher is a malware?
https://preview.redd.it/4c67cb98duzd1.png?width=744&format=png&auto=webp&s=6b9733af70f1c8e52878db464eec6ffdce2c91f7I was going to make a bootable iso using etcher but then macos says it's a malware and deleted the app. Afaik I've used it a few months back and it worked just fine. Is this just a mac side problem or etcher actually does have a malware into the app?
