Question:
How can one seek knowledge and seek an income in Yemen, are there Jobs available?
Do we need a permit to work?
How will I suffice myself?
Answer:
بسم لله الرحمن الرحيم
Alhumdulillah, one can seek knowledge and earn money while they are in Yemen. There are many ways one can do this, as for having a job where you work for someone else this isn’t recommended as you can imagine the wages aren’t ideal. However, what a lot of brothers do is they have their own businesses - this is where they are into trading/wholesaling. The key would be to find a product in Yemen to sell elsewhere for a profit as things are cheaper here alhumdulillah (eg Honey varieties which are much more expensive in the U.K./US/Saudi)
If one isn’t into trading and wholesaling, you can buy your own land and have your own farm, and raise and sell livestock, you can also work from home, if you have a skill such as in IT, you can freelance (eg website development, backend/front end developer, online businesses, middle man services, advertisement/online marketing, graphic design) and provide IT services online globally.
Some people (including sisters) cook different types of foods, homemade food, burgers/street food, deserts and they sell these to the Tulaab/mostly other foreigners. And some of them are very busy Allahumabarik. (for example, there is one brother who makes burgers and another sister that makes fresh donuts in Seiyun)
Alhumdulillah there are many options in ways one can seek Rizq in the lands of the Muslims, and Yemen does not require one to have a specific visa to work/start a business.
It’s also important to remember that one should not spend all of his time in their affairs of a job and remember that seeking knowledge comes first. Your Rizq is already written for you, at a time while you were still in the womb of your mother (Sahih al-Bukhari 3208) so take your means of attaining it but don’t over indulge at the expense of compromising what Allah has made obligatory for you. In addition to this, seeking knowledge is one of the ways of one can attain Rizq
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: There were two brothers during the time of the Prophet ﷺ. One of them used to come to the Prophet ﷺ and the other used to work to earn a living. Once, the working brother complained to the Prophet ﷺ about his brother (as only he was doing all the work, and his brother was spending his time with the Prophet ﷺ).
Thereupon, the Prophet ﷺ replied: *"Perhaps you are granted sustenance because of him."*
Sahih - [At-Tirmidhi]
And know that the Prophet ﷺ revealed that a soul will not die until your provision has reached you…the Rizq that was written for you while you were in the womb of your mothers will surely reach you.
The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ said, “Verily, Jibril inspired in my mind that a soul will never die until it finishes its term and *consumes its provision*. Thus, be graceful in seeking provision and let not one of you allow the delay of provision to compel him to seek it by disobedience. Verily, Allah does not grant what is with Him but by obedience.” (Sahih - Albaani)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Were the son of Adam to flee from his provision as he flees from death, *his provision would surely reach him just as death will reach him*.”
(Hasan - Albaani)
And Allah says in the Quran:
“And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will *provide him from (sources) he never could imagine*. And whosoever puts his trust in Allâh, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allâh will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allâh has set a measure for all things. {Surah Talaq}
So be patient, seek your means, know that Allah is the controller of All affairs, and that how and when you will receive your Rizq is by the Will of Allah - Ar Razzaaq. And know that by leaving the West and Darul Kufr, and leaving something for the sake of Allah, Allah will replace it with better and have good thoughts of Allah.
