“JESUS CHRIST THE MESSIAH”
SCRIPTURE READING: Hebrews 1:1-4
EXPOSITION:
It is surprising to know that most Jews do not believe in Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah the Old Testament prophets prophesied about. They looked forward to a Messiah with military might to deliver them from the oppression of the Romans. When Jesus came on the scene they had some hope. They wanted to crown Him as a King because they saw some characteristics of the Messiah in Him. However, His way of life and conduct and the fact that He came to die rather than deliver them from their captors made them write him off. Little did they know that His Kingdom was not an earthly one.
The writer of the book of Hebrews therefore takes time to prove that Jesus Christ is the promised Messiah for the Jews and all who believe. He uses many things they were familiar with such as angels, covenants, priesthood and prophets. This is a great book. I pray that by the end of the thirteen chapters of this book your faith will be boosted and your view of Christ greatly improved.
LESSONS/ LIFE APPLICATION:
Many a time when people come to Christ they expect their situations to change overnight. They want to live a trouble free life with a lot of money. The truth is that God is interested in our prosperity but He is much interested in our spiritual wellbeing. In dealing with God, we should have an open heart and be ready to receive and do whatever he instructs us no matter how absurd it may look to us.
PRAYER:
Father, I pray that you will grant me the humility of heart to see what you teach me in your word. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
MEMORY VERSE FOR THE WEEK:
You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more that Your companions. - Hebrews 1:9 (ESV)
