A missile that exploded near an Azerbaijan Airlines plane over Grozny caused the crash of a flight to Aktau, Euronews has quoted a preliminary investigation as saying
Sources in the Azerbaijani government have told Euronews that a Russian surface-to-air missile caused the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane. According to sources, it was fired at the flight during a drone attack over Grozny, with shrapnel hitting passengers and flight attendants when it exploded near the plane.
Sources also told Euronews that the damaged plane was not allowed to land at any Russian airport, despite the pilots' requests for an emergency landing, it was ordered to fly across the Caspian Sea towards Aktau in Kazakhstan. The plane's GPS navigation systems were reportedly jammed throughout the flight over the sea.
