😱 Former Wikimedia CEO coordinated censorship efforts

Katherine Maher, the former CEO and Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation, responsible for Wikipedia, states that her biggest challenge in combating disinformation is the First Amendment in the United States. She finds it tricky to tackle “bad information” and the people who spread it due to this constitutional protection of free speech.

Ironically, Katherine serves as the chair of the board of directors at the Signal Foundation, an American non-profit organization with a mission to “protect free expression and enable secure global communication through open-source privacy technology.”

During her time as Wikimedia CEO, she also coordinated censorship “through conversations with the government” and suppressed content related to the pandemic and the 2020 election.

Marc Andreessen, general partner of Andreessen Horowitz, said that they are doing the same to AI right now.
The whole point of #Wikipedia was to crowd-source information, not centralize it in a single person.

Elon Musk added that she “hates the Constitution of the USA.”

🎥 Pavel Durov in his fist video interview in 7 years revealed to Tucker Carlson some fascinating facts about Telegram, doing business in Dubai and his personal crypto wealth:

- Durov launched Vkontakte (Russian social media) at the age of 21, but had to sell off the company and leave the country after refusing to share user data with the Russian authorities.

- Durov says that his life goal is to give people freedom and privacy.

- Telegram is not controlled by the Russian or US government, yet the FBI allegedly tried to create a backdoor in Telegram by recruiting one of the developers.

- Once, he fought three robbers who tried to steal his phone in San Francisco after meeting Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter. Partially because of that and the attention from U.S. agencies, he decided not to HQ his company there. He was also put off by the bureaucracy in Germany, Britain and Singapore and opted for Dubai as a neutral ground.

- Pavel owns 100% of Telegram and wants to keep it independent, no plans for an IPO

- Currently, 30 people are working on Telegram. The team doesn't spend budget on marketing, yet the user base keeps growing, the goal is to achieve 1B

- Maintaining the current level of privacy is getting harder, there may be a need for protected smartphones to ensure confidentiality in the future.

- He was for the purchase of Twitter by Elon Musk, Durov believes it will have a positive impact on the social networking industry

- He has a few hundred million dollars in his bank account and owns $BTC, but he doesn’t spend it on anything, as it would undermine his freedom. Instead, he opts to invest everything back into Telegram.
