Some people say the main way to be happy in life is to have a lot of money. How might having a lot of money make people happy? What other things in life can make people happy.

Some claim that having a lot of money is the ultimate path to happiness. Admittedly, financial independence can help individuals live comfortably without lacking essential resources, but it is only one of many factors that contribute to happiness. Happiness is a multifaceted concept, defined differently by each person. However, major factors that lead to joy include family, good health, and a sense of purpose in life.

Having enough disposable income and living life without financial concerns can make people happier as opposed to those who struggle with insufficient earnings. In other words, material comfort reduces anxiety because when individuals have enough money to cover their expenses and enjoy life, they can concentrate on other aspects of life rather than worrying about money. Essentially, financial stability leads to fewer stressors related to money. As in the research conducted by “The American Psychological Association (
www.apa.org),” 75% of Americans reported to experience stress because of money, with 22% describing it as extreme. In contrast, when individuals have enough money, they are more likely to live a stress-free life, which is a key indicator of happiness.

However, defining happiness is difficult since there are many factors that contribute to a happy life, with a loving and stable family being a major one. Even if a person earns a significant income, living in a dysfunctional family can diminish their sense of happiness. This is because mutual understanding and support are crucial components of happiness, especially within a family. Therefore, many people associate happiness with a nurturing family.

Aside from a loving family and financial stability, robust health can also foster happiness. When people suffer from mental or psychological illnesses, exploring what happiness truly is might be hard. Take Steve Jobs as an example. When he was on his deathbed, he regretted not taking good care of his health and neglecting cancer, mentioning that he was too devoted to his work, which worsened his condition. Thus, it can be understood that having a fit body and mind is a crucial component of happiness and joy.

Additionally, one of the primary origins of happiness is a sense of purpose. Happiness is a hope, a feeling that people have and ultimately leads to joy. When people have a set of goals, they always wish to succeed and pursue their goals. This wish and hope to attain their goals often make people happy. According to
Forbes.com, people with high expectations and hopes tend to experience positive emotions, meaning having a purpose in life can be another contributor to happiness.

In conclusion, some feel that being affluent and having a lot of money guarantee happiness in life. However, associating happiness with only one component is difficult, and there are many other factors, like a sense of purpose, a good family, and physical and mental health, that can lead to happiness.

Some people feel that cities should allow for spaces for graffiti while others feel it should be banned. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.

Designating spaces for graffiti art is a matter of debate, with some arguing that cities should have designated spots while others think there should be a complete ban. Although urban art can serve as a form of creativity and assist in revitalizing cities, I believe that it should be criminalized, as allowing it might encourage vandalism and crime.

Allocating special areas to street art can help individuals boost their creativity, which also contributes to the beauty of cities. When there are places where people can practice, artists can hone their graffiti techniques, boosting their cognitive skills and improving their creativity at the same time. To be specific, graffiti artists should often come up with original ideas while creating graffiti, meaning they should always be on the lookout for new ideas and concepts.

Aside from the benefit to one’s cognitive function, street art can also beautify cities and even rural areas. If urban arts are selected and painted on designated walls, people can enjoy the view, a situation that is superior to one where individuals have to walk through plain, unadorned areas. Take Germany as an example. In Germany, not only artists but also ordinary citizens can come to the Berlin Wall and create their masterpieces. Such places can serve as a cornerstone of beauty and authenticity as long as the situation is under constant surveillance by authorities.

I think graffiti, when done without permission, is often seen as vandalism, especially when the art is chosen inappropriately. It can lead to costly clean-up for both governments and private property owners. By criminalizing this activity, both authorities and owners of private buildings can save money. “Criminalizing” means that individuals who practice this form of art should be punished severely, which deters many people from creating street art. Punishments can be in the form of money or imprisoning offenders for a short period of time.

Some argue that allowing graffiti might contribute to a rise in crime rates, and I agree with this viewpoint. Most street arts are visually disturbing, often calling for violence or encouraging the youth to lawlessness. Even if artists practice urban art without causing or encouraging violence in their work, people living in neighborhoods might feel unsafe, leading to an undesirable life.

In conclusion, while it might be true that urban art can contribute to the authenticity and the beauty of cities by encouraging people to be more creative, I believe that it is a negative turn of events overall, which can cause vandalism and hostility, meaning I advocate for a complete prohibition.

Some people think that people successful in sports have to be physically strong. However, other people think that mental strength is more important. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Some believe that professional sports figures should have a strong physique, while others view psychological endurance as the vital part of sports. In my opinion, if individuals want to have long-lasting, successful careers in sports, they should be both mentally and physically fit at the same time, meaning one is not superior to the other.

In the sports industry, athletes are required to be extremely fit and physically healthy to compete at higher levels, a scenario that reinforces the idea that athletic prowess is essential in sports. This industry, sports, is hyper-competitive, meaning only the best can survive. In other words, if athletes do not maintain a healthy routine by allocating hours at the gym and stick to a strict diet routine, they are less likely to be successful and fail to compete. Take UFC, Jiu Jitsu, and boxing as examples. Contenders in these sports have to dedicate countless hours every day to intense 3-month training before a fight, all while meaning peak physical condition.

However, the importance of mental health should not be neglected, as sports are not just about strong physicality. To be specific, there are sports where mental strength plays a more profound role than physical resilience. Chess can be one example, where players should be able to control their emotions and compete simultaneously. There are chess players who are born with mobility problems but still play chess at high levels. Joaquim Ferreira, for example, cannot walk with ease and has several health issues; however, he was able to acquire the IM title (international master) despite the issues he had.

Although whether mental or physical resilience is important can be a matter of debate, I think both of them should be deemed crucial for people in sports. This is because individuals cannot perform well when they have problems related to mental or physical health in many sports, as both factors are inseparable. When athletes can sustain a fit body and a healthy mind, they can train and get better faster.

In conclusion, even though some contend that being physically strong is paramount for professional athletes, others argue that mental toughness is more important. However, I view both factors as equally crucial for a successful and prominent career, since one supports the other.

Tipping has become a usual custom at restaurants worldwide. While some view it as an ideal way to express gratitude to service workers, others believe that employers and companies should be responsible for paying their staff fairly. In my opinion, tipping is a thoughtful gesture of gratitude, but it is important to recognize that in some cultures, it may be considered inappropriate, meaning when offering a tip, one should be mindful of local customs and norms.

It is reasonable that some people hold employers and companies accountable for paying their employees instead of relying on customers’ tips. In this contemporary era, the cost of living is surging, with the price of products, such as groceries, rent, and transportation, increasing. As a result, people may find it hard to cover all their expenses and tip at the same time when dining out.

Aside from tipping, food can be expensive at restaurants, a situation that reinforces the idea that employers should be held responsible for paying their workers. Most restaurants and cafes overcharge for the foods they are serving, which makes people think that they are paying a premium for their meals and should not be expected to provide additional support with tips. Take my native hometown as an example, where most restaurants charge too much for their meals, which is why most locals feel resistant to leaving a tip.

If tipping is considered appropriate, I think it is advisable to do so to express gratitude. However, in many nations, especially in Central Asian countries like Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, tipping is not a commonly practiced custom and is sometimes deemed offensive, which is why individuals should always be aware of cultural norms. In contrast, offering a tip at restaurants or cafes is a common practice in many countries, such as the USA, the UK, and several others. Customers often want to show their appreciation for good service, which is why they usually leave a tip. This, in my opinion, is an ideal way to express gratitude for service workers, as most individuals earn money to put food on the table for their families and cover basic expenses.

In summary, tipping is an optimal way to demonstrate appreciation, even though there are some who hold the view that employers and companies should be responsible for paying their staff. However, I think offering a tip is an ideal way, as long as it is appropriate.

Experience doesn’t always equate to competence.

A few weeks ago, I attended a conference in Andijan where a group of decent teachers gathered. I was clearly the youngest among them, but also one of the best—if not *the* best. One woman, around 35-37 years old, started boasting about her 15 years of teaching experience. I remained silent because I knew she was bluffing—not about the length of her career, but about her language skills. As a teacher, she was making numerous mistakes, which shouldn’t happen frequently at her level.

We organized a quick contest, where each teacher had 10 minutes to teach a lesson, and the others assessed them. The woman I mentioned scored the lowest, 5 out of 10. This demonstrated that "experience" doesn’t always translate to skill.

Many people judge teachers solely by the number of years they've been in the profession. But years alone don't define true experience. In the contest, I earned the highest score—9.5 for teaching and a perfect 10 for language skills. There was another teacher who performed at my level, scoring a perfect 10 for teaching and 9.5 for language. There were around 50 teachers present.

What I’m trying to say is that many people waste years claiming experience, while looking down on younger candidates like me. Yet, in reality, they stagnate and end up worse off. Like learning English, you can become an excellent teacher faster than others if you put in the effort and time to improve.

Take me, for example. I’ve only been teaching for two years—six months online and 1.5 years offline. That’s not long compared to those who claim decades of "experience." But I know very few, if any, who teach better than I do among the teachers I’ve met.

In numerous nations, there is a growing trend for individuals to frequently discuss financial matters, such as their earnings or expenditures, in everyday conversations. What are the reasons behind this phenomenon? Is it advantageous or detrimental?

In many countries, people are discussing financial matters like their incomes and expenses more often than ever. This shift is driven by factors such as economic pressure and social comparison. However, this trend may have negative effects, triggering several problems like heightened financial anxiety and unhealthy comparisons.

In this contemporary era, people are spending countless hours at work, trying to earn a significant revenue just to prove that they are good enough for society. This can be attributed to the immense pressure and expectations that are put by parents, friends, and coworkers. Frequent discussions around income and expenditures are also the result of this trend. In almost all gatherings, discussions are about how much people are earning and how much they are allocating to expenditures. As a result, people unconsciously compare their income to their peers’ and family members’. Take my native country, Uzbekistan, as an example, where society is obsessed with how much others earn and spend money on different items, which is likely to cause more discussions about financial matters and comparisons.

The impacts of this trend can be negative for people. It is obvious that when individuals talk about money and monetary matters, they think about their financial issues, resulting in increased levels of anxiety. People always avoid negative feelings and engage in certain recreational activities, all just because they do not want to feel uneasy and remember unpleasant experiences. However, as society focuses on and discusses financial matters, people are likely to think about their issues related to money and work, preventing them from leading a happy life.

Another significant drawback is the tendency toward harmful comparisons. People are influenced by societal norms and idolize certain people, which may impact their lives negatively. Even individuals compare how much money they spend and earn to their friends and loved ones while having a conversation with them. This can even sever the bond between close friends and result in various problems. When people, whether consciously or unconsciously, engage in comparisons, they may develop feelings of envy and resentment, which can ultimately harm their relationships.

In conclusion, the main reasons why people talk about their financial situations more frequently than in the past can be attributed to societal pressure and comparisons. This trend, however, has more drawbacks, such as increased anxiety levels and negative comparison, which might cause people to live undesirable lives.

The maps compare the changes made in the layout of Ashford city from 2010 to present.

In general, it is notable that Ashford city has become more modern, with more buildings constructed and a new harbor for yachts. These developments, however, did not compromise the environment; in fact, the city has more green spaces today.

In 2010, the city was less urbanized with few buildings and trees. The city was divided into two parts, west and east, with the river running through the center. On the north-east coast, there were multiple buildings with a pathway that led to the Tam River. There was no bridge that crossed the river; instead, there was a ferry operating in the middle. The west part of the city was more of a greenery, with trees planted to the north of a road that went to a city. Notably, the south part of the city is a wasteland, devoid of any buildings or trees.

The current view of the city is more urban, featuring more buildings and a new harbor. The buildings that were in the north increased in numbers, and a road that once led to the Tam River is divided into two, one of which is a way to a new harbor, while the other connects to a newly constructed bridge where you can travel to a city without using the ferry that existed in 2010. The most pronounced change in the west side is an increased number of trees, covering both the north-west and the south-west.
