JANUARY 27: THE MOTHER OF THE URSULINES
Saint Angela Merici
Founder
Died: 1540
---
She was an Italian founder. She made a vow of virginity and offered it to God. After realizing that the state of education for girls during that time was in need of improvement, she established a small school for girls. Soon, a handful of women joined her ministry of education. They became the Company of St. Ursula or Ursuline Sisters. This is the first uncloistered religious congregation of women dedicated to education.
