In 1663, France sent 800 women, known as the
"Filles du Roi" ("Daughters of the King"), to Quebec to
marry settlers. This initiative was successful and
doubled the population within ten years. Today,
two-thirds of the French-Canadian population can trace their ancestry back to these women. Whenever people say demographics cannot be solved easily, it can be. It's just a matter of will.
