Sir Keir Starmer’s chief of staff received a pay rise after the election which means she is now paid more than the prime minister.

The BBC has been told that Sue Gray asked for and was given a salary of £170,000 - £3,000 more than the PM.

Her Conservative predecessor Liam, now Lord, Booth Smith, was paid at the upper end of the highest pay band for special advisers, between £140,000 and £145,000 a year.

That's quite a significant pay rise.

The UK will hand over £4million to the Italian Government in a bid to tackle small boats crossings, Keir Starmer has announced.

The PM repeatedly refused to rule out processing asylum claims overseas after Italy struck a deal to do so with Albania which has overseen a 60% drop in small boat crossings in the past year.

This contrasts the UK where almost 1,100 people arrived by small boat over the weekend.

Junior doctors will strike again if they are not awarded “full pay restoration” despite a 22 per cent deal over two years, a senior BMA figure has said.

He added: “This offer puts a doctor who was before this, earning £15 an hour only on £17 now, which of course is an improvement, and it does mark the start of that journey, but the journey’s not over.”
