22 September: In Shatin's New City Plaza and City Link Plaza, a peaceful sit-in protest attracted a large crowd, where they occupied open spaces within the plaza but are not doing business with the shops. During the afternoon hours, some are seen folding paper cranes, and then linking them to create a large mythical creature "Lion Bird" (獅鳥) which is a homonym and pun for when one physically fights back in order to protect themselves and the group.

Checkpoint 1997 update:
On 22 September 2019, various protest events are popping up across the city. In Shatin’s New Town Plaza, pro-China or mainland shops were being targeted by non-cooperation actions such as crowding their shops, chanting as well as putting up “anti-Carrie Lam” logos and posters. As of 16:48, riot police have arrived at Shatin Station and the station have announced its closure.

Elsewhere, at V-Walk near Nam Cheong station, similar shops were treated with posters and messages created out of tape to point out their “Fujian” allegiance as retaliations against Fujian gangs assaulting citizens and protestors on the street with impunity.

(23:58)Police was seen retreating and leaving Castle Peak Road (Yuen Long) but not before firing multiple rounds of tear gas. One suspected expired canister was seen which usually expires 3 years from date of manufacture.
