Follow the Yellow Brick Road

A yellow brick road made of Dutch pavers, used to lead from the steamboat dock to Peekskill Military Academy.

Historians say this was the inspiration for Baum’s YELLOW BRICK ROAD!!
It is alleged that the tunnels underneath Alcatraz belong to the Yellow Brick road.

The tunnels at Alcatraz lead to San Francisco…and in turn  The Yellow Brick Road!

Frank Baum was born in Chittenango, New York. 

As you can see on this map, Chittenango is near the Finger Lakes!!

It’s also near Syracuse.

Frank’s father was in the oil drilling business. He made a lot of money. 

Why was Baum’s experience at Peekskill Military Academy a miserable one?? He was only 12. 
What did he see or know that made him so miserable?

He returned home because of a psychogenic heart attack. 
WHY???

Peekskill Military academy was located in Peekskill, New York. 

It closed in 1968. 

Peekskill is a city right on the Hudson River.
