There are several threads from people attacking me talking about how their hate “isn't about Eli, and it's not even about his social commentary, it's about those who listen to Eli at all."

And they’re right. It really isn't about me. How do I know this? Because designers' attacks on me were truly far more vicious in 2015, when I talked exclusively about design. They hurled epithets with social charge against me far more often then, before I ever said a word about anything other than design.

It's all so tiresome. The less I talk about design, the more my haters ignore me—which would in theory be a good thing. But the more I talk about design, the more they attack me for things completely unrelated, because they are too cowardly to address design criticism head on.

The hate toward me has always been about anyone who reads my design writing. It doesn't matter which category they're in:

* Readers who genuinely enjoy my design writing, whether they'll publicly support it or not
* Readers who are mostly neutral, but find a nugget of insight here or there
* Readers who hate-read me, but who have better things to do than publicly attack me

All three of these groups are being targeted today. The censors have denied all this, an acknowledgement which reveals it's true.

You are the ones the vocal minority is attempting to undermine. They want you afraid.

Don’t let them

People will say they disliked my “views,” but funny how I got the most hate exclusively when I talked about design. It’s an excuse.

This permaban is a case in point that mirrors many previous episodes. I’m tweeting about some stupid trend. Then designers start subtweeting. I respond. In this case design cops successfully mass brigade and report a totally unrelated tweet of mine that doesn’t even violate Twitter rules.

They claim it’s because of my “views” but if that was so, why were they content to ignore me except on the occasions where a design thread of mine blew up. It’s so transparent.

Twitter was a dungeon. It’s social affordances kept me small and focused on things I don’t actually care about.

It’s time to do bigger and better things. I’ve waited too long. I’ve neglected my mission.

To those who’ve supported me, thank you. In the coming months I will ask even more of you. And your kindness won’t go unnoticed.
