Hi everybody!
Today’s topic is Speaking. In my opinion the easiest part of the exam. How is it scored, how to prepare and how to improve this skill you’ll find below.
I guess you are aware of a test format and I don’t need to explain it fully, however let’s come across some basics. This test takes between 11 and 14 minutes and is conducted by a trained examiner. There are 3 parts:
Part 1Candidates answer general questions about themselves, home, family, interests and so on.
Part 2The candidate is given a task card with prompts and is asked to talk on a particular topic. The candidate has one minute to prepare and then has to speak between 1 and 2 minutes.
Part 3The examiner and the candidate engage in a discussion of more abstract issues which are thematically linked to the topic in Part 2.
About scoresFull description you can find here
https://www.ielts.org/-/media/pdfs/speaking-band-descriptors.ashx?la=enThere are 4 criteria:
1) Fluency and Coherence
2) Lexical Resource
3) Grammatical Range and Accuracy
4) Pronunciation
Preparation and improvementsYou have to speak as much as possible to improve your fluency. It’s really important to have a teacher who corrects your mistakes and gives a feedback. As well as this I’d recommend writing answers for some popular questions and memorize them, for instance about your home, work, interests, friends etc. It might seem strange but you have to listen to a lot to improve your speaking ability. When you are listening to natives your brain is focusing on pronunciation and vocabulary. As a result, you speak correctly! Just try, it really works! Also, try to speak at least a minute without a brake about a particular topic in order to improve your outcomes in part 2. I think this part is the most difficult.
My outlookWhy I believe that Speaking is the easiest part of the IELTS. I know many people would argue with me but still. This part is the shortest and it’s much more easily to concentrate and show your best. Also, examiner helps you to be relaxed asking some simple questions in part 1, which you have to prepare in advance. Personally, I’ve never had any barriers to speak, but my problem is still a vocabulary.
What is your problem in english or IELTS?😜
