I think more and more often about the greatness of old age, it is not in wisdom, it is in sentimentality.
started with a destructive smoking habit and grew into useful experiences and ideas. shooting cigarettes or when they were shooting at me, willy-nilly, out of a polite tone, I chatted with people who were not young, to be honest, old people who were probably, God forbid, in their last ten years.
If we take vivid examples, it would seem that they are radically different people, one is a drunkard who has been living on the street for about 8 years, the other has achieved everything he wanted. but they have so much in common, I would call it a sentimental love for the world and in it, in contrast to youth sentimentality, there is much less vulgarity.
It’s an amazing feeling how they live without being tied to dreams, they live on a rich sensory experience, you know the feeling that a song, food or place has some kind of internal associative sensation or feeling? there is similar stuff in them at every step. if young people suffer from shame, failure, success, love or melancholy, then in their words and eyes it is all mixed up and the lines are blurred, turning into a mixture of these emotions and feelings from old age. that moment when you have lived so much and felt that one object simply cannot give one emotion.
speaking of the variety of cases, one was at a bus stop, when I went to smoke for retirement, a man in old clothes came up to me and asked for a cigarette, in the end we talked, discussed how he fought in Afghanistan, how many colleagues he lost, about his former family , about children, about the future. Probably an excellent example of how a conservative person understands that he is like that and simply lives what is left for him and at the same time does not lose heart, being at the bottom. just sitting at the bus stop and looking at the children, at the world around him, he simultaneously feels sadness from the fact that he cannot see his children, that he was abandoned
the second incident was after a concert in the park, but it also started with a cigarette. This grandfather turned out to be a really successful and completely wealthy man, his children studied all over the world, he had real estate, a lot of local people knew him, he hung out with teenagers and young people who are literally punks and regional subcultures, but at the same time everyone still and worked as a janitor in a park. and there is no feeling of being a jerk, he looked very neat, he really was the life of the party, he shared things with everyone and communicated politely.
