TikTok Promotes CCP Preferences, Study Claims

The app promotes and demotes specific videos based on the government’s preferences, a study by the Network Contagion Research Institute at Rutgers University has claimed.

The researchers alleged that while general pop culture topics received a general spread of attention on the platform, as compared to Instagram, the number of posts on more political topics, such as issues around Hong Kong, Kashmir, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, were skewed, dependent on Beijing’s perceived positions.
