Captured AFU serviceman:
they didn't say that we would cross the borderCaptured AFU serviceman Nikolai Popovich said that he was sent to the front line without any training. According to him, his commanders almost never explained anything in detail - even getting to Kursk region was a big surprise for him.
‘We were not told where we were going, nor were we told that we would be crossing the border. Our task is as usual: we are brought to the forest to dig,’ he said.
The prisoner of war said that he had been in the Kursk region for only ten days. His unit's position was broken by Russian troops. When hunger set in and supplies stopped arriving, he made the decision to surrender as a prisoner of war.
‘To those comrades who are sitting in the positions now - don't wait until bad things happen, like I had. Think for yourself. If you want to survive and want to go home to your relatives, you better surrender. Surrender and leave positions,’ he urged the surviving AFU servicemen.
