Competence is how good you are when there is something to gain. Character is how good you are when there is nothing to gain.

People will reward you for competence. But people will only love you for your character.

Know this, there will be voices all around you seeking to exert influence over you. Be mindful of who you give permission to influence you. Influence is a powerful tool which could be for good or bad. Gaurd your gates. You are a product of influence.

While prioritizing your personal development, ensure you acquire the following skills:

- Leadership and creativity.
- Critical and analytical thinking.
- Complex problem solving.
- Flexibility and adaptability.

To stay relevant, you must stand out.

In school, time pressure on tests favors the fastest sprinters. But in life, success is a marathon.

The students with the greatest potential aren’t always the ones who rapidly spit out the right answers.

They’re often the ones who take the time to ask the right questions.

Comparison is not the thief of joy. Envy is.

Resenting others' success breeds misery and rivalry. Admiring their success brings motivation and learning.

We all compare ourselves to others. A key to growth and happiness is focusing our comparisons on people who inspire us.

An important lesson everyone needs to hear:

Focus on direction—not speed.

It’s better to climb slowly up the RIGHT mountain than to climb fast up the WRONG one!

The Paradox of Speed: Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up.

The benefits of slowing down are extensive:

• Focus on high leverage opportunities
• Be more deliberate with direction
• Restore energy + avoid burnout
• Notice things you previously missed

Falling into the “Speed Trap” is a terrible feeling—one that can be avoided by focusing on direction first, speed second.

It’s natural to see the world through our own eyes and base our choices off of what our best interests are. Don’t shy away from understanding how those choices affect others and if they are painful for others. Be accountable for each choice and its consequences.

Arguably the most important skill is controlling your attention. This goes beyond merely avoiding distractions. The deeper skill is finding the highest and best use for your time, given what is important to you.

More than anything else, controlling your attention is about being able to figure out what you should be working on and identifying what truly moves the needle.

Репост из: Opportunity Space
Prepare yourself in every way you can by increasing your knowledge and adding to your experience, so that you can make the most of opportunities when they come.

Leaders are not born. They’re made.

There's no such thing as a natural leader. Everyone starts out with shortcomings as well as strengths.

Leadership potential doesn't depend on the traits you possess. It emerges from the values you choose and the skills you learn.

This is for everyone who is struggling:

Start setting goals and plans around imperfect conditions. Perfect conditions don't exist.

When you ignore challenges, you sacrifice future success. Overcoming adversity gives you evidence that you can do it.

The faster you expose yourself to failure, the faster you'll experience success.
It's not about perfection. It's about learning from your failures.
When you expect it to be hard, it becomes far easier to continue.
You have to be willing to suck in order to achieve long-term success.
The moment you realize setbacks are actually setups, you win.

This creates a positive feedback loop that will help accelerate your growth.

Excuses don't help make things better. They only offer a rationale to avoid trying.

Instead of finding reasons not to take action, embrace the challenges and setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow. Every obstacle you encounter is a chance to strengthen your resolve and move closer to your goals. Progress often requires persistence in the face of adversity.

So, next time you catch yourself making excuses, remember, the path to your dreams is paved with effort, not excuses.
