- NEWS - Venezuelan opposition leader Machado published a video explaining yesterday's events and her arrest and followed release

María Corina Machado was arrested and subsequently released by forces of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, she has now released.

According to her, she was stopped by Maduro’s forces after the protest, where police put her on a separate bike, but then freed her and made her record a proof of life video. Lastly, she warned Edmundo González Urrutia, the U.S.-recognized winner of last year’s election, away from coming back to the country due to the current situation.

- BREAKING - Serbia cancels military purchase contracts for Russian weapons

Serbia has cancelled contracts for Russian weapons, Serbia's Chief of General Staff Milan Mojsilovic said.

Mojsilovic did not specify whether the country was cutting military with Russia.

In August last year, Serbia decided to abandon the purchase of a new batch of Russian fighter jets, which had been under discussion since 2021. Instead of the Russian aircraft, Belgrade made a deal on the purchase of 12 French Rafale fighter jets for 2.7 billion Euros in order to replace its aging fleet of Russian-mass MiG-29s.

This news mark another blow and setback to Russian weapon exports since Feb 2022

- NEWS - U.S. Unveils Sweeping Sanctions Against Russia’s Energy Sector

Washington on Friday imposed some of its most sweeping sanctions on Russia’s oil industry since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, targeting two Russian oil majors, as well as Russian oil executives, traders, oilfield service providers and insurers.

Oil prices soared to more than $80 per barrel ahead of the news on Friday, as rumors swirled that the anticipated sanctions package on Russian crude exports would tighten supplies in global markets.

🇻🇪🇨🇴🚧 Bernal announces the closure of the border with Colombia, despite having denied for days that it would happen.

The governor of Tachira state, Freddy Bernal, announced that by order of Nicolás Maduro there will be a “provisional closure of the border” with Colombia from this Friday at 5:00 am until 5:00 am on Monday, January 13.

He said they have information about “an international conspiracy.”

He made no reference to the situation on the border between Paraguachón, Zulia, and Maicao, Colombia.

The breakaway Moldovan region of Transnistria called on #Russia for assistance Friday as it faces an energy crisis after Moscow halted gas shipments last week.

Moscow Accuses Lithuania of Provoking Territorial Dispute Over Kaliningrad

The Kremlin on Friday accused Lithuania of provoking a territorial dispute over the Kaliningrad region after the Lithuanian president criticized a local museum’s decision to rename one of its locations dedicated to an 18th-century Lithuanian poet.

The Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Arts renamed its Kristijonas Donelaitis Memorial Museum to the Museum of Literature at Chistye Prudy. The museum houses a Lutheran church and the home where Donelaitis lived and worked in the mid-1700s.

Greenland is only the tip of the iceberg

A senior Trump aide confirmed that the Greenland gamble is about broader geopolitical dynamics, with the U.S. seeing an increasingly belligerent Russia as a rival for Arctic hegemony.

"This is not just about Greenland. This is about the Arctic. There is a Russia that is trying to be king ... It's about oil and gas. This is about our national security. This is about critical minerals," said Mike Waltz.


Greenland and Svalbard, a Norwegian island, are strategically located. Svalbard is important to Russia because the Northern Fleet must pass through its sea route to reach the Atlantic.

In 2022, when Norway began blocking Russian ships bound for Barentsburg to comply with economic sanctions against Moscow, the Kremlin freaked out and accused Norway of human rights violations.

In 2024, Russia provocatively planted Soviet flags in the Russian-populated towns of Barentsburg and Pyramiden and announced the opening of a new scientific center for polar research.

The biggest danger with Trump’s fixation on taking over Greenland is the potential inspiration it could give to rival powers to start acting in the same imperialist vein, Arctic watchers have warned.
