NASA’s Parker Solar Probe to Get Closer to the Sun Than Ever Before⏺
On December 24, the Parker Solar Probe will approach the Sun within six million kilometers, closer than any human-made object in history. Traveling at a speed
of 690,000 km/h, the probe will withstand temperatures of
1,000°C to gather groundbreaking data about the Sun's atmosphere and solar winds.
⏺Astrophysicist Volker Bothmer stated that while no live signals will be received during the encounter, the team expects confirmation of its status by
December 27. Initial findings could help answer questions about the Sun’s outer atmosphere, significantly hotter than its surface, and provide insights into stellar atmospheres in general.
