ምዝገባ ቦታ፤ በዖንላይን(online) ሲሆን ከዚህ ቀጥሎ በተቀመጠው መመርያ መሰረት እንድትመዘገቡ እንጠይቃለን፡፡

Farm Visit at Mokoney and Emba-Alage Woreda(continued)

College of Dry Land Agriculture, Department of Crop and Horticultural Science.(DCHS) in collaboration with MU-ISSD and NOARD has been conducting research and breeding of crops. The primary activity of the research is to breed high yield varieties of barley, both feed barley and malting barley. Selected varieties have been mass produced for distribution to the local farmers through unions. The malting barley has high demand from the brewing industry and the researchers mainly help in bulk production and distribution of this variety so as to improve the livelihood of the growers. Researchers also breed durum wheat, which is typically used to make pasta and has better financial return to the farmers than other varieties. The research outputs are distributed to unions, which also channel the varieties to the local farmers.

Professor Fetien Abay, Research and Community Vice President of Mekelle University, reiterated that community service is one of the activities of our university. We encourage our researchers to come forward and engage in research and community services endeavors. These engagements have paramount importance in promoting different varieties of breeds. She added, this is an exemplary work that shall be boosted. Lastly, she expressed her gratitude to the researchers and to all participants on the seed germination.

Dr. Addis Abrha, Project coordinator and staff member of DCHS pointed out that “Our goal is no longer limited to this Area; the scope of the research should be expanded throughout the country andwe need our research projects are relevant to national needs and linked with industries and solving our socio- economic challenges" Said Dr. Addis.
