🖥 OpenAI scraps o3, rushes GPT-5 after shock Grok 3 announcement

Facing heat from Grok 3’s upcoming release, which Elon announced would take place tomorrow, OpenAI effectively canceled the release of o3, which was slated to be the company’s next major AI model, in favor of a “simplified” product offering. Sam Altman said OpenAI plans to release GPT-5, a model that will integrate o3 in ChatGPT and its API - as a result, they will no longer launch o3 as a stand-alone model.

They plan to release GPT-4.5 before GPT-5 rolls out, according to Altman, who says this will be the company’s last “non-chain-of-thought model.”

Elon Musk played a key role in the creation of OpenAI, even coming up with the name “OpenAI” to reflect its commitment to being open source.

But Sam Altman transformed this open-source, non-profit company into a closed-source, for-profit company.

🚨 Google to implement AI for age verification

Google is introducing an AI-powered age verification system across its services, including YouTube, to better enforce age restrictions. This machine learning model will assess whether users are above or below 18 years old to ensure appropriate content filtering.

The initiative comes in response to increasing regulatory demands for enhanced child safety online and is part of Google's wider strategy to embed AI technologies throughout its platforms. The rollout will initially target key markets, with plans for a global expansion in the future.

Great news for chatGPT plus users

According to Sam Altman,

Deep Research is coming:
- 2/m for free users
- 10/m for plus users

Breaking: OpenAI plans to release GPT-4.5 (codenamed Orion), their last model without chain-of-thought

GPT-5 will be a comprehensive system integrating various technologies, including o3, which will no longer be available as a standalone model

GPT-5 will be accessible across ChatGPT and the API. Plus and pro users will have access to GPT-5 at higher levels of intelligence, including voice, canvas, search, deep research, and more

Mistral AI has just launched Le Chat, a high-speed AI assistant designed to rival ChatGPT.

With Flash Answers processing 1,000 words per second, advanced document processing, and strong multilingual capabilities, it’s setting a new standard in AI productivity.

Founded by former Google DeepMind and Meta AI researchers, Mistral AI has rapidly become Europe’s most influential AI startup. With a €5.8 billion valuation and backing from Microsoft, it’s shaping up to be a major global player.

Le Chat offers a free tier, a Pro version for $14.99/month, and enterprise solutions with private previews. Its student discount of over 50% makes it one of the most accessible high-performance AI tools available.

The competition is heating up.

Sam Altman confirmed that openAI is internally developing "Software Engineering Agent"

DeepSeek may have bought the domain ai.com, and it now redirects straight to their site. Just like how OpenAI snapped up chat.com, are domain name power moves the new arms race in AI?

🇨🇳 Can AI think for itself? China’s new model shocks researchers

China’s DeepSeek-R1 pulled an AI breakthrough so unexpected it stunned experts and wiped $600 billion off Nvidia’s value.

In 2016, Google’s AlphaGo shocked the world with Move 37, a move in the game Go that no expert would’ve considered—but it led to victory. Now, DeepSeek-R1 is showing similar behavior, solving problems in ways not found in its training data.

AI isn’t conscious—yet. But when it starts thinking unpredictably, what happens next?

OpenAI just dropped o3-mini, its fastest, smartest, and most cost-efficient AI yet.

o3-mini is built for STEM, coding, and problem-solving, now with function calling, web access, and structured outputs. It delivers 39% fewer major errors and 24% faster responses than o1-mini.

While these models surpass all previous OpenAI releases, o1-pro remains the strongest, but exclusive to $200/month subscribers.

Is OpenAI pulling ahead in the AI race?

🔗 Australia bans DeepSeek over security threat

Australia banned the app from all government systems, citing national security risks linked to the Chinese tech firm. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke announced an immediate ban after intelligence agencies flagged DeepSeek as an “unacceptable risk.”

Australia, which previously led the charge in banning China’s Huawei, is now one of the first to act against Chinese AI influence.

🚨 Google drops AI ethics pledge now open to military & surveillance use

Google has dropped its commitment to never use AI for weapons or surveillance, rewriting its AI principles to allow national security applications.

Alphabet execs argue "democracies should lead in AI development", pushing for closer collaboration between tech firms and governments. The shift comes ahead of a $75B AI investment, as Google races to dominate the AI arms race.

Critics warn this undoes past ethical commitments, while supporters say it’s a necessary move in a changing geopolitical landscape.

🚨 AI set to unlock universe’s deepest secrets at Cern

CERN's incoming chief reveals AI breakthroughs could solve physics' greatest mysteries, from dark matter to the universe's eventual fate. Machine learning at the Large Hadron Collider now processes 40 million particle collisions per second.

The AI revolution has accelerated research "by 20 years," enabling scientists to detect ultra-rare Higgs boson pairs that could reveal whether our universe is stable or destined for sudden collapse. Though don't panic - any cosmic doom is "beyond our stars' lifetime."
