FOR A CELTIC UNIONIn Europe, there is an "Atlantic arc" made up of Ireland, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Wales, British Cornwall and mainland Brittany (not forgetting Spanish Galicia), which is historically, culturally and oceanically homogeneous, and above all has an incredible resilience that has kept a Celtic identity alive over the millennia, despite colonisation,
This has been achieved despite centuries of colonisation, ostracism and repression by neighbouring nation states (England, France and Spain).
This Celtic Union not only exists through cultural events such as the Lorient Interceltic Festival, or sporting events such as the International Federation of Celtic Wrestling, it is also expressed through a shared human, historical, geographical and therefore economic destiny.
If we look at the 6 countries gathered around this maritime area, aptly named the Celtic Sea, we have
1 / A demographic power of 21 million inhabitants:
- Ireland: 6.9 million, 84,420 km².
- Scotland: 5,500,000 inhabitants, 77,910 km².
- Man, 85,000 h, 582 km²de
- Wales: 3,300,000 people, 20,779 km².
- Cornwall: 570,000 hours, 3,563 square kilometres
- Brittany: 4,900,000 hours, 34,018 km².
2 / An economic powerhouse with a combined GDP of 112 billion euros, which would be much more without the stranglehold of the colonialists of London, Madrid and above all Paris, as demonstrated by the independent Ireland, which alone accounts for half of this Celtic GDP.
If we look at a map of these Celtic territories, we can see the strategic and maritime power of these Celtic countries, and if we look at their territories we can also see a land-based agricultural power that is no less strong and an exceptional tourist attraction.
3 / A shared cultural power, with a history, traditions, oral heritage and Celtic languages that are still alive, but under threat as long as they remain a minority and, above all, minoritised by foreign colonialist cultures.
It is obvious that all the characteristics for a Celtic Union are there, lying fallow and waiting for a political dynamism freed from the current state shackles that keep 5 of these 6 countries and Northern Ireland in colonialist-style subjugation, the worst being French Jacobism, which does not even have the hypocritical federalist status.
With a political Celtic Union, there would be a certain economic dynamism (but with new challenges), focusing on the opportunities offered by the particular territories (Irish organic farming, Breton seaweed, etc.), which would secdote the corresponding technologies.
A Celtic Union would protect peoples, identities and traditions as they redefined themselves throughout Europe and beyond. Common linguistic policies to promote and disseminate Celtic languages, restoring their rightful place in public life.
For this to happen and to prevent the Celtic arc, which has resisted until now, from disappearing into the economic, social, moral and spiritual wreckage of a decadent West, the 6 Celtic brothers and sisters must all become free to make their own choices and therefore independent.
But in the meantime, it is possible to imagine the creation of institutions parallel to those of the faltering nation-states, like the Nordic Council bringing together Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the regions of the Faeroes, Almond and Greenland.
An interesting debate that you can find on the website of the independent Breton media "nhu".
