🇩🇰🇬🇱🇫🇴⚡️ King Frederik X changed Denmark's coat of arms to better represent Greenland and the Faroe Islands on December 20, 2024.
—> The updated design removes the three crowns of the Kalmar Union and highlights the importance of the Faroe Islands and Greenland for Denmark.
For 500 years, the Danish royal coat of arms featured three crowns, symbolizing the Kalmar Union of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden (1397–1523).
However, in the updated version, the crowns have been replaced with prominent images of a polar bear and a ram, representing Greenland and the Faroe Islands, respectively.
The Danish Royal House explained that the updated design "strengthens the authority of the commonwealth" and noted that the three crowns were removed as they were deemed "no longer relevant."
