Lebanon in CRISIS: Fuel shortages could UNLEASH “social catastrophe” as cost of living SKYROCKETS
The Lebanese pound has PLUNGED to a record low against the US dollar (18,000 to 1USD) amid an ongoing economic crisis with reported fuel, food, and medicine shortages.
Lebanon has been without a full-fledged govt for almost 11 months since the catastrophic explosion at Beirut’s port – protests and riots took place all over the country at the weekend, with reports of groups laying siege on banks as hyperinflation destroys savings.
The crisis-hit country’s Interim PM, Hasan Diab, approved a plan to decrease fuel subsidies - to try and secure a 3-month supply. The move has been highly criticized as UNSTAINABLE by observers.
