Someone who loves us will listen to us. They will comfort each of us while we share our feelings with them. They will be respectful and try their best to understand. They will never disrupt us while we are being vulnerable with them. They will not make we feel like what we are saying ain’t important. Someone who loves us will urge us to go on with the stories of ours. They will make room for our thoughts and emotions, because they appreciate how we have consistantly done that for them, and they will want to make us feel safe and loved that way, also.
The sad part is that sometimes we develop connections with people who don’t appreciate us as much as we appreciate them. And for the longest time, we refuse to accept that. We keep waiting for them to somehow see our relationship the way we see it. We stay with them even when they aren’t reciprocating our feelings wholeheartedly because we hope that one day they will realize and value the beauty of the connection we share. It utterly is devastating—the day we eventually have to be honest with ourselves and believe what has been right before all this while. And when it is the right time to finally let our eyes go of them …
Be brave. Be strong for ourselves because we deserve greater than this. We deserve relationships in which the other person is equally present, committed and involved. We deserve a true love; one that both us and the other persons (a pair) feel and choose to nourish at the same time.
