🔥 Soul Firing: The Story of a Fallen Empire
What if the only way to survive the end of the world was to stop being human?
Arx was once part of a great Empire.
Its cities stretched for miles, its temples and palaces seemed eternal, and its most powerful mages believed they could solve any problem.
Then the Magical Catastrophe began.
Anomalies warped the land, transformed living creatures, and made entire regions uninhabitable. The old world was rapidly approaching its end.
And then a method emerged that was meant to save humanity.
People learned to transfer human souls into special bodies made of white clay, capable of withstanding the effects of magical anomalies.
This process became known as Soul Firing.
At first, it seemed like a miracle.
The sick received new bodies.
The mortally wounded could continue living.
And in the face of the approaching Catastrophe, Soul Firing gave people the most precious thing of all: hope for the future.
But it soon became clear that immortality came at a price.
The souls trapped inside ceramic bodies began to change.
Memories faded.
Emotions became distorted.
The mind slowly deteriorated.
A person continued to exist, but became less and less human.
⚔️ The Empire was divided
Some believed Soul Firing was humanity’s only chance to survive the Catastrophe.
Others would rather die as humans than condemn their souls to eternity inside ceramic vessels.
Debate turned into conflict.
Conflict turned into war.
Then the Catastrophe came.
The Empire fell.
But not everything died with it.
🏺 Centuries later
The survivors built a new Arx upon the ruins of the ancient metropolis.
Old temples are dismantled for stone. Houses and workshops rise among the remains of ruined forums. New life grows over the bones of a civilization that once tried to conquer death itself.
But beyond the city walls, the past has never truly disappeared.
Damaged patrol units still guard the streets of districts that died long ago.
Automatons continue to carry out the orders of masters who perished centuries earlier.
In flooded estates, servants still await their lords’ return.
And among the ancient ruins, vessels containing human souls can still be found.
Now the anomalies are growing stronger once again.
People are disappearing.
Ancient mechanisms are stirring.
And the people of Arx realize that something left behind after the Empire’s fall is awakening.
