Neighboring-up:
When going over your emergency preparedness plans you need to address the issue of possibly having to neighboring-up in an emergency. By that I mean discussing with friends, family or neighbors (that your comfortable with) about how you could work together in a crisis. A good example would be forming of a security perimeter around your neighborhood if needed. Even if it’s simply just a few neighbors top, and bottom of your block. Encompassing a block or two perimeter, each with hand held radio communications. Knowing what your plans are in any giving situation is the key. Here’s two links that might be helpful.

Emergency Preparedness

Toilet paper:

Most don’t think of tp when putting together their long term food storage preps. What I did was bought a case of the compact 2-ply cordless commercial toilet paper. It’s not the gourmet stuff but it goes a long way and comes pkg well.

Emergency Preparedness:
(Solar Generators)

The solar generators can be nice. Quite and stealthy at night, but I find them over priced, and most don’t have the amps to turn over a refrigerator, garbage disposal, ect.

Emergency Preparedness:
(Gas Storage)

People have to do their own research and follow local laws. That being said, I like having reserve fuel in case of emergencies. I keep a couple 5-gal containers for regular use, mowers, etc. But I also like a couple 30-gal drums. Why 30’s ? Because they are stored in a garage, and easier to move. Once a year I roll them out, add additive as needed to preserve it, stir it with a broom stick. Seal it back up, re-date a label and stuff em back in storage. You can get the barrels from a local container supplier (get new barrels). You’ll also need a pump. I have shown two. I got the better one. And, a barrel tool to open & close.

Emergency Preparedness:
Emergency Lighting (interior)

Purchased a couple rolls of 18g wire from https://powerwerx.com/red-black-bonded-zip-cord

Rolled it our on the floor in the house, with a 10’ lead into ea. room.

Then connected small led lights as needed. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NPR573N/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_imm_awdb_308R6QD27AJMQVC3GP5N?psc=1

About 1-2 in hall ways, 1 ea. room, etc. connect led’s, soldered, heat shrink tubing, etc. Then I added a connector at the end for a 12v battery. I used the smaller 12v battery like used for home alarm, internet backup battery, etc. Stealthy, runs for long time. Then recharge w/your generator as needed.

Emergency Preparedness:
(Small Generators)

I have a larger generator however I have some neighbors that purchased smaller generators mainly just for the refrigerator, coffee maker, phones, etc. That have worked out pretty good for them, and they do use less gas.

(Plate Carriers)

For those that have all your main gear. A plate carrier of some type would be something to look at. This picture is a simple carrier by Condor. They go up from here. plates are sold separately. This model takes the shooters cut.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS:

Nice gloves are good to have. I have yard, work gloves and tactical gloves. These are my tactical gloves.

- I take off the tips of my thumb and forefinger. This allows good dexterity. I’ll even wear these when I go for a walk if it’s cold. These are made by Voodoo.

Emergency Preparedness:
(Firearm Carry System)

I’ve tried all the different systems. Inside the waist band (IWB), Outside the waist band (OTW);

⁃ IWB: Uncomfortable after a while. Normally have to up size your pants to fit. I have a drawer full of these.

⁃ OTW: Comfortable once broken in. Don’t have to change pant size. Easily covered with proper shirts length. My favorite !!

⁃ Proper Belt: You most have a proper belt (carry system) to hold the weight. I carry a Sig P-239, single stack 40 SW which is heavier than most. I don’t even know it’s there. You want a steel core leather belt. From frt. it just looks like a nice belt. They don’t sag, even after years. It’s makes a system. IMO

Emergency Preparedness Tips:
(Generators - Gas, LP, Propane, Solar)

Personally, I have a Westinghouse 6,500 watt gas unit & 3,000 watt pure sine-wave Tactical Solar Unit. I’m in the city, so if I were to do it again I’d just go with larger Natural Gas Unit. The solar-unit is nice because you can’t hear it. There are advantages to that. However, there’s not enough ump for the frig. compressor. The gas generator needs gas & oil. They also have conversion kit for smaller units like my Westinghouse 6,500 so you can run gas, propane or natural gas.

Transfer switch:
A transfer switch allows you to have a plug outside the house near your fuse box. Normally they have about 6 breakers so you choice which six when you have an electrician wire it in. To use you just plugin your Gen cord and flip breaker to generator setting. Bypasses home breakers so when power is back on it doesn’t short or feed power to power lines.
Some ideas . . 🤔

For the Advanced Preppers:
12 Volt water pump, Shurflo pump and Water Filter Setup.

I saw this video some years ago, improved on it and made one. Then fit it in a nice rollable Pelican Case ready when needed. Relatively easy to make, uses a 3-gal min. 12v RV water pump. Contacted a filter company told him what I wanted filter wise. Gave him the filtration specs off my “First Need Water Filter” & it was a go.
⁃ 12v 3-gal min. RV water pump (buy at RV supply or Amazon)
⁃ 30’ clean water RV hose w/connectors every 10’
⁃ 20’ 12v cord, car battery
⁃ Double filtration w/pre-filter on end
⁃ Neighbors w/swimming pools, other water source.
⁃ 20-30 gal water barrel w/dolly for transport
⁃ 55 gal water storage barrels at home

These units will handle the water needs for your group.

Water Filtration systems are easy to make, done for under $200 see pics above.
