A man who had planned to run for MCA in Western Kenya in 2027 went to the Coast last week for a short holiday with his sister, a lawyer.
The trip was going well until Saturday, when they hired a boat to go out and see the ocean. The crew did not warn them that the waves were unusually strong. Only days earlier, similar waves had even pushed a ferry sideways at Likoni, making it difficult to disembark.
Far from shore, the waves overpowered the boat and it capsized. The other passengers and the crew managed to swim back to the beach. The two siblings apparently could not swim. By the time help reached them, it was too late.
Their bodies were later washed ashore by the same strong waves.
The ocean had claimed two more lives. Rest in peace, Barasa Okomol and your sister, Advocate Cynthia Barasa.
