Condé Montrose Nast bought Vogue in 1905 and turned it into a bi-weekly magazine and began expanding Vogue's publications overseas in the 1910s. In 1916, British Vogue began to be published, and then Spanish, Italian, and French Vogue in 1920.
In 1960, when Diana Vreeland was editor-in-chief, the magazine began to attract young women, focusing on contemporary fashion and open discussion sections on sexuality. Several prominent models have also started appearing on the cover of Vogue, including Suzy Parker, Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, Lauren Hutton, Veruschka, Marisa Berenson, Penelope Tree, and others. In 1973, Vogue turned into a monthly magazine under the leadership of Grace Mirabella.
From 1988 to the present, US Vogue is led by Anna Wintour. As of October 2013, Vogue claims to have an average print circulation of 11.3 million, and an average monthly readership of 1.6 million. The average age of a Vogue reader is 37.9. Of all Vogue readers, 87% are women. In the December 2006 issue of The New York Times, Caroline Weber described Vogue as "the world's most influential fashion magazine".
