On this day in Communism;
After the declaration of The Triumph of the Cuban Revolution on the 1st January 1959, the following day Che Guevara entered Havana, and Castro took Santiago de Cuba, before his week-long Freedom Caravan procession into Havana.
Manuel Urrutia, a moderate liberal anti-Batista, anti-communist politician, was installed as President of Cuba.
This new revolutionary government consisted largely of Cuban political veterans and pro-business liberals including José Miró, the new prime minister.
Although repeatedly denying that he was a communist to the press, Castro began secretly planning for the creation of a socialist state. By February Miró was ousted, and Castro took over as Prime Minister.
Within a year, Castro and his government had effectively redistributed 15 per cent of the nation's wealth, including his mother's land holdings, declaring that "the revolution is the dictatorship of the exploited against the exploiters."
66 years later, the dictatorship is in its final death throes, and Cuba is a total wreck.
