Dummer's War 1722 - 1725
📍Maine/New Hampshire
The war was named after William Dummer, the Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony.
The war was mostly fought between the Massachusetts and New Hampshire New England Colonies and various native tribes. Tensions brewed for years over struggle for control of the region.
The conflict witnessed several attacks, reprisals, and raids carried out by both sides. Native tribes conducted raids on colonial settlements, both military and civilian. The colonists, in response, launched punitive expeditions.
Notable events such as the Raid on Deerfield in 1704, the Battle of Norridgewock (1724), and the Battle of Pequawket (1725) resulted in significant casualties on both sides.
Dummer's War ended with the signing of the Treaty of Casco (1725). The treaty reestablished peace and ended hostilities, but tensions and conflicts would continue to in the coming years leading up to the larger conflict of the French and Indian War.
