Bennington Monument
📍Bennington, Vermont
The Bennington Monument is a 306-foot obelisk with an observation level at 200 feet. It was constructed between 1887 and 1891 to commemorate the Battle of Bennington, a pivotal event during the American Revolution.
While the battlefield is 10 miles away, it was at this location the New England colonists maintained a store of weapons and food, which the British knew was critical to capture in order to restock his own troops.
The monument stands on the site of the original military storehouse that was defended by New England forces during the battle, which took place on August 16, 1777.
