⚡️FDA approves first medication for sleep apnea
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Zepbound, the first medication to treat obstructive sleep apnea, a condition affecting millions globally. Zepbound, containing the appetite-reducing drug Tirzepatid, is already used for weight loss and works by lowering body weight, which in turn reduces sleep apnea symptoms.
Until now, treatment often involved cumbersome CPAP machines or mandibular advancement devices. The approval is based on studies showing significant improvement in apnea events over a 52-week period.
