The history of New York City, New York begins with the documentation of the first Europeans in the area by Giovanni da Verrazzano, at the command of the French ship, La Dauphine, when he visited the area in 1524. He is believed to have sailed in Upper
New York Bay in where he found the Lenape people, he returned via The Narrows where he anchored on April 17, and then left the area to continue his journey. He named what is now
New York City Nouvelle-Angoulême (New Angoulême) in honor of Francis I,
King of France and Count of Angoulême.[1]https://open.spotify.com/track/4v1CvZazmdpxQLEt3sCeKH?si=T7PuAMTUSLyo76rsjwAXfg&utm_source=copy-link&dl_branch=1
