Telegram founder Pavel Durov stated that the Russian government declared him a "terrorist" for refusing to participate in "mass surveillance and censorship" on the messenger. The entrepreneur wrote about this on his channel. "According to Russian law, I am prohibited from 'publishing information online.' Russian officials have confused who can ban whom online," he said. Under current regulations, individuals on the "extremist" list are also prohibited from publishing information online and interacting with the media.
Durov, who lives in the UAE, also posted a picture in his channel in which the Telegram founder himself is described as a "terrorist," while representatives of the Taliban, shaking hands with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, are called "esteemed partners." The day before, the FSB charged Durov with aiding terrorist activity, after which Rosfinmonitoring added him to its list of extremists and terrorists. In addition to a ban on online activity, this includes freezing his bank accounts and restrictions on most financial transactions.
