Читайте опубликованную в историческом номере журнала «Население и экономика» статью Бориса Миронова о рождаемости в городах России в 1859-1913 гг. и начале демографического перехода. Имеющиеся данные свидетельствуют о том, что переход от спонтанной рождаемости к регулируемой впервые был отмечен у петербуржцев примерно в середине XIX века, распространившись среди всего городского населения во второй половине века и распространившись на сельское население в начало ХХ века.

An article by Boris Mironov about urban fertility in Russia in 1859-1913 and commencement of demographic transition was published in the historical issue of the journal Population and Economics. The available data suggest that transition from spontaneous fertility to the controlled one was first noted in St. Petersburg residents around the middle of the XIX century, disseminating among the entire urban population in the second half of the century, and extending to the rural population in the early twentieth century.
