Marburg. Marburg's "Langer Anton" is the third tallest man who has ever lived in Germany. The giant who is researching Nina Ulrich, the forensic anthropologist and curator of the University's Anatomicum Museum, measures 2.44 meters. Now Anton has traveled to Nuremberg. “Giants have always fascinated people,” says the scientist, who traced the unusual man as part of her dissertation on the origin of the specimens from the anatomical collection: His real name was Anton Franck, but he called himself Anton de Franckenpoint, which sounded more noble and reminded of his birthplace Pont, a district of Geldern on the Dutch border. His exact year of birth is not known. The anthropologist assumes, however, that he was born in 1561. He had a pituitary gland tumor that produced too much growth hormone. Experts from Ghent in Belgium are currently clarifying whether there were also genetic causes for his gigantism.
