On April 1, 2014, Nathan Benjamin Trapuzzano was killed on a morning walk through his neighborhood. Simeon Adams and another 16-year-old shot Nathan during an attempted robbery, but since Nathan usually took his daily walks without a wallet or even a phone, the boys left the scene emptyhanded. Simeon later told one of his friends, "white man tried to tussle with me so I shot him."
Nathan died about one month before his first anniversary and the birth of his first child. According to his wife, they spent his last evening together, eating ice cream and talking about the future. "I rolled onto my left side and he rolled over and put his arm around me because he wanted to feel his baby girl, that's the last thing I remember. He was holding his baby girl and he felt her kick. I woke up the next morning and he was gone."
